The second period was a wild one in Vancouver on Friday night. Henrik Sedin became the Canucks' all-time leading scorer with an assist, there were four total goals and -- oh, yeah -- fights on three consecutive faceoffs.

After the Canucks scored three consecutive on the Stars, the gloves started dropping like dominoes.

First, it was Ryan Garbutt and Aaron Volpatti (former teammates at Brown University). The ice was cleared, the two combatants sent to the box, both teams lined up for the next face off, puck drops and then it was Vernon Fiddler vs. Maxim Lapierre. The ice was cleared, the two combatants sent to the box, both teams lined up for the faceoff, puck drops and then it was Eric Nystrom taking on Dale Weise. The ice was cleared, the two combatants sent to the box, both teams lined up for the face off, puck drops and it was back to the hockey portion of the evening.

Cody Eakin scored for Dallas with 2:10 left in the period to make it 3-2 Vancouver after the fisticuffs. Whether it was thanks to the change in momentum due to the fights or not, the Stars played better after the two sides spent about three minutes of real time and three seconds of game time airing their grievances. They added two more in the third to pull out a 4-3 victory.

The league probably won't be too happy about this, but perhaps three separate fights is better than one big-line brawl. Bright side?
