The NHL Daily Fix is your morning wakeup call, with news and notes for the day's hockey action.

Morning buzz

Pretty awesome from Sunday night's Blues-Canucks game in Vancouver. A 101-year-old man named Herb Dawe attended an NHL game for the first time. To make it even better, he sat on the glass.

Scott Howson was ousted as the GM of the Blue Jackets last week, but he's not taking it poorly. He sounded understanding in an outgoing interview with Aaron Portzline.

"Hey, I had 5 1/2 years here. I had a great opportunity. We didn't win enough. And when you don't have sustained success, you open yourself up to being replaced. It's professional sports. We all know that going in." (Columbus Dispatch)

Braden Holtby isn't the only member of his family torturing their parents by competing on the ice. Braden's sister, Taryn, is competing in the Canadians' women's curling championships. Sean Fitz-Gerald profiles the family. (National Post)

Jake Allen has the Blues back on track with three straight wins, and now Jaroslav Halak is expected to return Tuesday. So if you're the Blues, what do you do: carry three goalies? (St. Louis Blues)

The Predators will be one of the teams taking part in the Presidents Day matinee schedule, and they could have Patric Hornqvist back. That would be a nice gift. (@glennonsports)

A funny look at Roberto Luongo's mug shots during the last three years. He seems a bit more relaxed this time.

This reminds me of this gem from Robert Andino of the Baltimore Orioles. From the optimism of a new start to the third year with a bad team (although the O's did finally win last season).

Monday schedule

Philadelphia at N.Y. Islanders (1 ET)
Ottawa at New Jersey (1 ET)
Nashville at Colorado (3 ET)
Carolina at Montreal (7:30 ET)
Toronto at Florida (7:30 ET)
Calgary at Phoenix (9 ET)
Columbus at Anaheim (10 ET)
