Minnesota Wild forward Devin Setoguchi won't be suspended for his hit on Red Wings defenseman Kyle Quincey on Sunday, but he has been fined.

NHL chief disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan and his office announced the punishment for Setoguchi on Tuesday morning. Setoguchi was fined $8,108.11, otherwise known as the new maximum amount under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Well, technically the max is $10,000, but Setoguchi wasn't eligible for that high of a fine as a first-time offender. Instead, he was fined half of his daily salary, thus the oddball number on the fine. (On a side note, that really puts it into perspective what these guys make, huh? That's half of his daily salary?!)

Setoguchi was assessed a double-minor in the game for the high-sticking on Quincey, and perhaps that was a factor in Setoguchi not getting a suspension on this play, in addition to his previously pristine record.

This won't do a ton for Setoguchi, I'm sure, but it at least starts a file in Shanahan's discipline drawer. It's like having your name known by the school principal; it's likely not a good thing. You'd be happy if he/she never noticed you.
