NHL Daily Fix: Hartnell cleared to practice; great Harlem Shake

The NHL Daily Fix is your morning wakeup call, with news and notes for the day's hockey action.

Morning buzz

We have steadfastly avoided the Harlem Shake here at Eye on Hockey (you're welcome) but the one above was too good to pass up.

You probably saw the goal Wednesday night, which my colleague Adam Gretz described as "the hockey equivalent to the circus jamming 50 clowns into a tiny car." It might have been made even better by being set to the Harlem Shake meme.

If you didn't see this one Wednesday, Predators forward Rich Clune was fined $1,452.70 (believe it or not, that was the max he could be fined) for boarding Aaron Palushaj on Monday. (NHL.com)

Here's some great news for the Flyers: Scott Hartnell was cleared to practice on Wednesday. That means he could be back in the lineup by next week. That'd be a huge lift. (Courier-Post)

Is Alex Ovechkin washed up? Is there something wrong with him? Chuck Gormley thinks it's about time he answer the growing number of critics. (CSN Washington)

In light of another horribly missed call -- Matt Duchene being offside against the Predators on a goal -- the coach's challenge debate is rising again. (CBC)

The Lindy Ruff era came to a startling end Wednesday when the Buffalo coach was fired after almost 16 years. Team owner Terry Pegula was not present for the news conference but did issue this statement:

"The hockey world knows how I and the entire Buffalo Sabres organization feel about Lindy Ruff not only as a coach but also as a person. His long tenure with the Sabres has ended. His qualities have made this decision very difficult. I personally want Lindy to know that he can consider me a friend always."
