The St. Louis Blues said thank you to goaltender Jake Allen for helping them right the ship by sending him back to AHL Peoria.

Allen was called up because of injuries to No. 1 goaltender Jaroslav Halak. He was then given the chance to play when the Blues' other goalie, Brian Elliott, was struggling mightily and the team was mired in a nasty funk. Coach Ken Hitchcock turned to Allen eight days ago, and he was just what the doctor ordered. St. Louis went 3-0-0 on a road trip, including a shootout win in Vancouver.

But Halak is healthy again and, considering Halak and Elliott were the league's best duo last season -- and are both paid pretty well -- Allen was the odd man out. So instead of keeping three goalies on the roster, the Blues instead sent Allen down to Peoria.

It's a pretty safe bet to say this isn't the last that we'll see of Allen. He showed he's a good goaltending prospect; he had a 2.62 goals against average and went 3-1-0. The save percentage wasn't exactly pretty at .895, but there is no doubting he was huge when they needed him.

Plus, he made what will probably be the save of the season.
