AHL Springfield forward Wade MacLeod, who suffered a seizure on the ice after taking a hit from behind against the boards Sunday against the Adirondack Phantoms, has a benign mass on his brain, according to a statement released by his family.

MacLeod was carried off the ice on a stretcher, and the remainder of the game was suspended.

"He will be undergoing further examination to determine the appropriate treatment," the release stated. "We appreciate the respect of Wade's privacy at this time."

The one bit of good news to take from that is that the mass is benign. But that hardly means it's nothing to worry about. I'm no brain surgeon, but I can say it's obviously a dangerous situation.

Despite the scary moment on the ice, indications are that everything is OK with MacLeod, a member of the Blue Jackets' organization. He was released from the hospital and his stepfather had this to say:

“Wade is resting, and feeling a lot better,” Essery said. “He was alert all night, and he has a good appetite. His doctors and the hospital staff have been fantastic in their care. … There has been an impressive outpouring of support through the social media, and Wade is very appreciative of it. He thanks everybody for thinking of him.”

In 20 games this season with the Springfield Falcons, MacLeod had four goals and seven assists. The BC native played four seasons at Northeastern University before joining the Falcons.
