The move is retroactive to Sunday, which means he will miss at least the next two games at Winnipeg on Thursday and at Buffalo on Saturday. The first game he will be eligible to play is next Monday at Toronto.
Brodeur missed Sunday's game against the Jets after he left warmups because of some soreness in his back.
General manager Lou Lamoriello told Devils beat writer Tom Gulitti he doesn't believe the injury is serious but they didn't want to rush him back into the lineup.
