Ryan O'Reilly made his return to the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday in Columbus, getting in a game for the first time since the Avalanche matched an offer sheet submitted by the Calgary Flames on Thursday.

It wasn't so triumphant. O'Reilly scored a goal, but it was into the wrong net.

OK, to be more clear, O'Reilly's stick just happened to be in the passing lane trying to block a pass for Nick Foligno when he inadvertantly pushed the puck past Semyon Varlamov and into the cage for the tying goal. The Avs went on to lose the game 2-1 in overtime, so you can do the math; this goal was pretty big.

"Bad play by me there," O'Reilly said after the game (via Denver Post). "I got to be strong on my stick and get it out of there. If I do that we probably win that game."

To be fair, Foligno was likely going to slam that puck home if O'Reilly didn't get in the way but still, it's kind of funny that a guy comes back and in the first game scores an own goal. Well it's probably not so funny if you're an Avs fan.
