Panthers' Eric Selleck suspended two games after NHL debut

Eric Selleck made his NHL debut on Tuesday night for the Florida Panthers. He has been suspended for the next two games.

Selleck was called up from AHL San Antonio to replace injured winger George Parros. Late in the Panthers' 4-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night, Selleck left the bench and immediately engaged Carolina's Kevin Westgarth in a fight. He earned an automatic one-game suspension for instigating a fight in the final five minutes of a game.

The NHL added second game to the suspension because Selleck came on the ice legally but immediately turned his attention to Westgarth, not the puck. It was very clear what his intentions were as soon as he hopped over the boards.

The only reason that it wasn't a 10-game suspension is because Selleck did at least make a legal line change.

To make matters worse for Selleck, Westgarth gave him a good pounding for his troubles. The fight wasn't long, but it didn't have to be. Westgarth left Selleck looking in bad sorts at the end.

Not the best way to make an NHL debut.
