Buyers or Sellers

As the video above so wonderfully explains, the Buffalo Sabres are sellers and everything must go.

But does anybody want what they're selling?

We've already heard Ryan Miller's time in Buffalo could be coming to an end, but the list of potential buyers for his services would probably be a very short one, which would make trading him a difficult proposition. Forward Drew Stafford, a former 30-goal scorer who is currently in the middle of a disappointing season, is another name that's been mentioned and he would reportedly welcome such a move.

Potential Trade Bait

While it might be time for the Sabres and Miller to go in different directions that's probably going to be easier said than done if management decides to go down that path.

For one, how many teams are really in the market for a goaltender right now? And perhaps more importantly, how many teams are in the market for a goaltender who makes more than $6 million next season? The Tampa Bay Lightning could once again use an upgrade in net (the Anders Lindback experiment isn't going that well), but general manager Steve Yzerman doesn't seem like he's all that wild about spending that much money on a goalie.

Columbus? Maybe before Sergei Bobrovsky started playing lights out. Toronto? Same thing, only replace Bobrovsky's name with James Reimer and Ben Scrivens. Philadelphia is always a wild card when it comes to big names and you never really know what that team has going on, especially with Ilya Bryzgalov once again struggling.

Upcoming free agents Robyn Regehr and Jordan Leopold seem like they could move and provide depth for a playoff team, but neither one has had a great season and should result in much of a return (then again, we said the same thing about Paul Gaustad last year and Buffalo landed a first-round draft pick from Nashville for him).

Stafford's name has come up in rumors, but that contract and declining production probably aren't all that attractive for prospective buyers.

It's a rough situation for the Sabres. They're a bad team, have some bad contracts, and the players who could be sold off as potential rentals just aren't that good. That's how a team ends up at the bottom of the Eastern Conference.
