Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk just can't move on and he refuses to let it go.

He is still convinced that Pittsburgh Penguins forward Matt Cooke intentionally injured his team's star defenseman, Erik Karlsson, earlier this season, and he told Toronto's Fan 590 on Wednesday that forensic doctors in Toronto are working to prove it.

Because, well, why the hell not?

Here's a partial transcript, via Senators Extra (the entire Interview is here)

“I'll bring it to (Brendan) Shanahan and to Gary (Bettman) and at that point they can decide whether it's something they want to put out publicly or not, if I'm right. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.”

“Look, they're fair, they're very fair when it comes to that,” he continued. “They will listen to you, but, you know, you have to come back with professional evidence by doctors, forensic doctors that can do it, and it's actually being done right in Toronto.”

Just when you thought this was all going to go away, it goes and gets even more absurd.

Karlsson, the NHL's reigning Norris Trophy winner, was injured earlier this year when he suffered an Achilles injury after a collision along the boards with Cooke. Cooke's skate hit the back of Karlsson's leg and sliced his Achilles.

Karlsson hasn't played since, and almost instantly Melnyk went on the offensive, asking why Cooke "a five-time suspended goon" (Melnyk's words) was even allowed to continue playing in the NHL.
