The Tampa Bay Lightning clearly had to do something about its goaltending situation, but was this really the answer?

The Lightning acquired goaltender Ben Bishop from the Ottawa Senators on Wendesday afternoon in exchange for forward Cory Conacher and a draft pick.

That is a very, very steep price for general manager Steve Yzerman to pay.

Conarcher, 23, is one of the leading candidates for the NHL's rookie of the year award and has nine goals to go with 15 assists in his debut season. He has more points than any other player on the Senators' roster, and they were able to get him for what essentially was their third-string goalie.

Bishop, one of the biggest goalies in the NHL, has been very solid for the Senators this year in the absence of starter Craig Anderson. But his track record, even going back to his days in the AHL, doesn't exactly scream "No. 1 goalie in the NHL."

Goaltending has been a constant thorn for the Lightning over the past two seasons, and the team had hoped that Anders Lindback would help solve that problem. The Lightning traded several draft picks to the Predators this past summer to get him, and he hasn't quite taken over the position the way it was anticipated.

Either Yzerman sold high on Conacher and found a gem in Bishop, or he traded a young, talented asset for another question mark in goal who doesn't solve the problem.
