The Coyotes bench was a sick, disgusting place on Thursday

The Phoenix Coyotes were able to keep their playoff hopes alive on Thursday night thanks to a 4-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings.

What's impressive about the victory is that as many as six Coyotes players were violently ill before -- and during -- the game, including scheduled starting goaltender Jason LaBarbera. It was so bad that according to coach Dave Tippett defenseman Dave Schlemko had to go down the hallway after every shift.

Chad Johnson ended up having to start in goal in place of LaBarbera and earned first star honors by stopping 34 of 36 shots in the win.

But it wasn't easy for the rest of his teammates, as Tippett said they had to have buckets on the bench for ... well, you get the idea.

"That's the first game I think I've ever coached with two buckets beside me right on the bench," Tippett said, via Craig Morgan of Fox Sports Arizona. "I'm amazed that TV didn't pick that up."

Fortunately, it didn't.
