How does one get mad at Pavel Datsyuk? One doesn't. The Detroit Red Wings star is one of the most likable players in the league thanks to his dazzling highlights to his renowned sense of humor. Perhaps that's why Datsyuk's tweet Friday night was one of the more endearing troll jobs of two fan bases you'll ever see.
With back-to-back games in Phoenix and Colorado, the well-traveled Detroit fans help make the atmosphere a little friendlier for the visitors. So naturally, Datsyuk wanted to be polite.
Thanks to hockey fans in Phoenix and Denver for making us feel like we were playing at home!— Pavel Datsyuk (@Datsyuk13) April 6, 2013
Maybe it's not even an intentional troll. Maybe Datsyuk is just being appreciative of the many Wings fans that made the trip out. Still, Coyotes and particularly Avalanche supporters might come away with a little hurt pride thanks to No. 13's tweet. Letting the visiting team feel comfortable isn't usually part of "home-ice advantage."
Making matters worse for Avs fans, Datsyuk scored a heart-breaking overtime game-winner Friday in the last meeting between the rivals as Western Conference foes. Realignment will put the Wings in the East, meaning meetings between the teams will be less frequent, particularly in the playoffs where the rivalry fermented. In a dismal season, this was probably a win Avalanche fans craved more than most.
Trolling in the tweets and on the ice. At least when Pavel Datsyuk rips your heart out, he does it with a smile.
