Minnesota Wild forward Dany Heatley will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery, the team announced Tuesday evening.

He is expected to be ready for the start of the 2013-14 season.

Heatley was injured at the end of a recent game against the San Jose Sharks during a scrum with Marc-Edouard Vlasic. During that scrum, Vlasic slashed Heatley and was fined $8,378.38. It's not believed that the slash is what directly led to the injury (but something during that scrum did).

In 36 games this season, Heatley has scored 11 goals to go with 10 assists. He's not the player he was several years ago when he was one of the best goal-scorers in the NHL, but he's still one of the Wild's top offensive threats. He is signed through the end of next season at a salary cap hit of $7.5 million.

The Wild are trying to end a lengthy playoff drought this season and entered Tuesday's game in sixth place in the Western Conference with 46 points, four points behind Vancouver for the top spot in the Northwest Division.
