Dustin Brown suspended two games for hit on Jason Pominville

The L.A. Kings have two games remaining this regular season, but Dustin Brown won't play in either of them. The captain was suspended two games Wednesday by Brendan Shanahan and the NHL's Department of Player Safety, which explained the situation in the video above.

Brown was on the puck in a game against the Wild on Tuesday night when Minnesota's Jason Pominville was coming in for a body check. At that point Brown lunged into Pominville, delivering a good shot to his head in the process.

It's certainly not every day you see a player get suspended for a hit delivered when he had the puck, but that's the case here. As has been shown time and time again under Shanahan, making an upward lunging motion to another player's head is going to be frowned upon just about every time, even if, as Brown said, "he was coming to hit me. I was just bracing myself."

Believe it or not, it's the first suspension of Brown's career. He is a player who has been accused by many of toeing the line and indeed crossing it at times but has never been called on it by the league until now.

With the suspension, it means Brown's consecutive-games streak is going to end. Going back to February 2009, Brown had played in 314 straight games, an impressive ironman streak.

The good news for the Kings is that they already have their playoff spot wrapped up and are just playing for seeding. They currently lead the race for the fourth position and the home-ice advantage that comes with it but they will have to hold off the Sharks and Blues for that sans Brown, something that makes the task a little tougher.

Pominville, who appeared to be really "shaken up" after the hit, is listed as day to day by the Wild.
