With the Montreal Canadiens in a 3-1 hole to the Ottawa Senators, they got some even worse news on Wednesday: the season is finished for Brian Gionta.

The Habs forward will undergo surgery Friday to repair a torn left biceps, obviously meaning his season is finished, even if the Habs complete a comeback and advance to the second round. This isn't the time you want to see your captain go down.

It certainly hit Gionta hard.

If a torn biceps doesn't sound painful enough by itself, consider that last year Gionta tore his right biceps and had surgery to fix that. It's been a rough year-plus in that regard for Gionta.

Gionta played in just two of the first four playoff games in the series, recording one assist. He did play all 48 games during the regular season, though, scoring 14 goals to go with 12 assists, five of those goals coming on the power play.
