TeamGradeAnalysis
B-For most of regulation, the Penguins looked like a team that wasn't aware they had a chance to move on to round two. They couldn't get out of their own zone, they turned the puck over, and they just looked like a slower team. Tomas Vokoun kept them in it just long enough to get the win. It wasn't pretty, and they have to be better. Only reason this grade isn't lower is the simple fact they won and Vokoun propping them up a bit.
BThe Islanders played well enough that they probably deserved a better result. And though they didn't win the series, they represented themselves very well and put the organization back on the map. They're a goalie away from being a really dangerous team in the Eastern Conference.
ATomas Vokoun was great again. And though Penguins coach Dan Bylsma didn't want to discuss his goaltending situation for the second round, it would be pretty absurd to not stick with Vokoun. He was perhaps even better on Saturday than he was on Thursday, when he recorded a shutout.
D-For as good as Vokoun was for the Penguins, Evgeni Nabokov was just as bad for the Islanders. This was not a good series for Nabokov. He finished with a .842 save percentage, which is one of the worst marks that any goalie has had in a playoff series in nearly two decades.
B+Along with scoring the game-winning goal in overtime, I thought Brooks Orpik played one of his better games of the series. Orpik had a mistake on one of New York's early goals, but the Penguins owned a 12-10 shot advantage with him on the ice at even strength, the Penguins scored three goals with him on the ice (only allowed one), and he made a great play on the penalty kill to break up a pass that probably would have resulted in an easy tap-in goal for the Islanders.
