The Boston Bruins are hurting, and their series with the New York Rangers hasn't even begun.

With Game 1 set for Thursday night in Boston, the Bruins are going to have to play with a very depleted defensive corps. Three defensemen -- Dennis Seidenberg, Andrew Ference and Wade Redden -- are all nursing injuries, and what coach Claude Julien said after the morning skate has to be a big concern.

If that's the case, those three aren't the only ones hurting. The Bruins as a whole will be, too.

Yes, the Bruins have Zdeno Chara, who can eat up minutes like nobody else, but you can't expect to put him on the ice for 40 minutes. The other guys have to play. And with the Bruins being so thin because of injuries, it means there will be a lot of inexperience back there.

If all three of those guys can't go, the Bruins are probably looking at three pairings as follows (as they were in the morning skate): Chara and Dougie Hamilton, Matt Bartkowski-Johnny Boychuk, Torey Krug-Adam McQuaid.

Nothing like being forced to play three rookies in six defensive spots in a playoff game. It's going to be interesting to see if the Rangers perhaps get a little more aggressive than their typical defensive approach at this time of the year.
