A-The Sharks got off to a tremendous start, absolutely owning the first few minutes of the game, and rode that the rest of the way to a 2-1 victory. What was great was how they continued to play hard all the way through the end, not giving LA much at all in the third period, a big contrast from when they held a 2-1 lead in Game 4 at home. They were dominant in the faceoff circle, something that always helps with puck possession. One of the down points was a really soft goal against by Antti Niemi and a lull in the first period after Joe Thornton's goal.
B-After a brutal start that saw the Kings take three penalties in the first five minutes and yield a 5-on-3 goal, they did a good job rebounding to get back into the game. Despite the one power-play goal early in the first period -- the 5-on-3 goal -- their penalty killing was exceptional. They killed a four-minute penalty in the second period by allowing just one shot. But again, the offense was the issue on the road, a third straight one-goal performance in San Jose.
AT.J. Galiardi spoke up earlier this week and got under LA's skin a bit by saying Jonathan Quick has a tendency to embellish. Well, he backed up the bravado by scoring his first career playoff goal, a rocket on the rush that beat Quick high. It proved to be the game-winner and one of three shots that Galiardi put on net in the game.
B+Trevor Lewis had a really good game in almost every facet of the game for the Kings. He had three shots on net, two more missed and another two that were blocked. He had three hits, a takeaway and blocked a pair of shots as well, all while playing 20:17 and was a plus-1. So what's the downside? He was just 3-14 on faceoffs for 21 percent. Oof.
