VIDEO: Player goes crazy at World Ball Hockey Championships

It's not often we share something from the world of Ball Hockey, but there's an exception for everything.

With the World Ball Hockey Championships going on in St. John's, Newfoundland, Team Canada found itself playing the Czech Republic and on the bad side of the ledger in the closing minutes. Down 4-1, Canada pulled its goalie and the Czechs scored one more to make it 5-1 with a second to go. They celebrated securing the big win before returning for the faceoff with a second to play.

Canada's Justin Pender was lined up on the wing and was obviously not happy. That's when this fight assault ensued. The action really picks up at the 2:00 mark.

Here's a little more on the altercation from The Telegram:

Canadian defenceman Justin Pender of St. John's was given a double match penalty with one second left after an incident that resulted in a game official being taken off the floor on a stretcher. The official was reportedly injured as he tried to intervene when Pender tangled with a Czech player after the winners scored an empty-net goal. Czech goaltender Lukas Heczko was also involved.

As for what will result, a posting on the world ball hockey championships Twitter site (@2013WBHC) read "A Canadian player acted violently towards another player. Referees will announce penalties and proper processes will be followed. Tournament will issue statement once that has occurred."

Pender is actually an ice-hockey player as well. He played four seasons for the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL as a junior player from 2005-09 and now plies his trade in the ECHL. He split the 2012-13 season between the Bakersfield Condors and Ontario Reign. Not too surprisingly after watching that video, Pender has his own page at HockeyFights.com too.

Kudos to the Czech goalie who decided to try to protect his teammate who was being relentlessly attacked by Pender by jumping on him with his gear. He paid a price for intervening, though; Pender hit him a couple of times too before angrily walking off the rink.
