Late last week Edmonton Oilers prospect Kristians Pelss went missing in Latvia and there were unconfirmed reports that he had drowned after jumping into a river.

After recovering a body on Friday, officials confirmed to Latvian news agencies Apollo and Diena on Saturday that the body is that of Pelss (via the Edmonton Journal).

Pelss, 20, was a seventh-round draft pick of the Oilers in 2010. He played his junior hockey for the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League and made his pro hockey debut this past season, splitting time with the Stockton Thunder of the ECHL and Edmonton's AHL team in Oklahoma City.
