After removing his name from consideration for the Dallas Stars job on Friday night, Alain Vigneault is in the process of being signed to become the next coach of the New York Rangers, according to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News.

Vigneault will reportedly sign a five-year contract.

Vigneault spent the past seven seasons with the Vancouver Canucks, making the playoffs six times, including six Northwest Division championships, a Presidents' Trophy, and a Western Conference title in 2010-11.

Once everything is finalized, he will replace John Tortorella, who was fired shortly after the Rangers' second-round exit against the Boston Bruins.

The Rangers also interviewed Mark Messier for the position, and although he certainly would have been an interesting hire -- and perhaps even a popular one with Rangers fans -- it would have been a huge risk given his lack of coaching experience.
