BOSTON -- When the Chicago Blackhawks hit the ice for Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Boston Bruins on Monday night, they did so without one of their best players.

Forward Marian Hossa was not in the lineup and was replaced by forward Ben Smith. After the game coach Joel Quenneville said that Hossa is day to day and they are hopeful he will play in Game 4.

Originally the Blackhawks announced on Twitter that "something apparently happened during warmup." But in the postgame session Quenneville said that Hossa suffered an upper-body injury before warmups. On top of that, Jonathan Toews said the team knew all day Hossa might not play.

Hossa has been one of the best players in the playoffs this postseason, scoring seven goals to go with eight assists in 19 games.

Smith appeared in one previous game this season for the Blackhawks, scoring a goal.
