In the United States, Doc Emrick brought his usual passion and enthusiasm to the Stanley Cup Final's thrilling Game 6, but he's got a long way to go to match the intensity of Finnish broadcasters Antti Mäkinen and Jani Alkio, who called the game for their fellow countrymen.
With two goals 17 seconds apart in the third period, the Chicago Blackhawks flipped the game on its head, stunning every hockey fan from Boston to Helsinki. Mäkinen and Alkio seemingly captured the frenetic finish with the unbridled joy of some guy named Bob chowing down on a Polish sausage and knocking back an Old Style somewhere along Maxwell Street in Chicago.
The Dave Bolland goal call is equal parts elating and terrifying.
What might be most interesting, however, is Chicago's lineup is devoid of any player from Finland, yet it was the Bruins' Finnish goaltender Tuukka Rask getting beaten for the tying and winning goals.
Even though they sound more like two Jack Edwardses after too much coffee, no one will accuse these guys of being homers, I guess. What a fun duo.
