The St. Louis Blues have re-signed defenseman Jordan Leopold for two seasons. The veteran was on his way to free agency until the deal was reached on Wednesday morning. The deal is worth $4.5 million, or a $2.25 million cap hit, per Jeremy Rutherford.
The two-year deal will keep Leopold with the Blues until he's 34 years old. He has had very little time to settle into St. Louis so this will give him a chance. He only played 15 games with the Blues and then all six in the playoffs as well.
Leopold was acquired at the trade deadline as the Blues loaded up defensemen, acquiring Leopold from Buffalo. He was seen as a rental acquisition but they liked what they saw and are purchasing him. Hey, you can never have enough defensemen.
Overall Leopold had two goals and eight assists last season between St. Louis and Buffalo. He does have some offensive ability, topping out at 35 points two seasons ago with the Sabres.
