The Philadelphia Flyers needed to add another goalie to their roster and did just that on Friday afternoon at the start of free agency.

The team has signed veteran goalie Ray Emery to a one-year contract. According to ESPN's Pierre LeBrun, the deal will pay him $1.65 million.

Emery spent the past two seasons splitting time with Corey Crawford in Chicago. He spent one year with the Flyers during the 2009-10 season.

After buying out the remainder of Ilya Bryzgalov's contract after the season the only goalie Philadelphia had on the roster was Steve Mason.

It's a relatively small sampling of data to go on, but Emery has played well the past three seasons and is coming off a 2013 season that saw him post a .922 save percentage with the Blackhawks. He won't be playing behind a defense that's anywhere near as good as the one he had in Chicago, but based on the way Philadelphia's goaltending performed last season it might be impossible for him to do any worse.
