Not only has the free agent elected to go to the KHL, but he'll be reuniting with Kovalchuk at SKA St. Petersburg according to Igor Eronko. Interestingly enough, it marks the third time in the last two years that Ponikarovsky has joined a team that Kovy was on, having been traded to the Devils in each of the previous two seasons.
Probably goes without saying but this one is juuust a bit smaller of a deal than Kovalchuk going to the KHL. For a while Ponikarovsky was a 20-goal guy, topping out at 61 points in 2008-09 but ice time and prodcution have gone down. He finished with four goals and five assists last season in 42 games, presumably a leading factor in a lack of NHL interest.
The real loss here is for people making My Little Poni jokes ... really bad ones.
