The Ottawa Senators hae reached an extension with winger Colin Greening, announcing the deal on Monday.

Greening, who has one more season left on his existing deal, has signed a three-year extension with the club that will carry a $2.65 million cap hit. Yes, the Senators have joined the list of organizations who include the monetary value in team releases.

Greening was selected in the seventh round by the Senators in 2005 and it took him some time but he's become an NHL regular. He played all 82 games in 2011-12, scoring 17 goals with 20 assists. This past season he played in 47 of 48 games with eight goals and 11 assists all in a lesser role where he averaged less than 15 minutes per game.

Now he can focus on trying to crack the top six without having to worry about his contract this season.

"I knew it was a possibility and going through the summer and the negotiation process I did have that in the back of my mind, but I think both parties realized they wanted to get it done before the season started," Greening told Senators TV. "It's a load off my mind and it will help."
