Spin-o-rama won't be banished from shootout after all

The NHL tried to get rid of the spin-o-rama in shootout situations but the spin-o-rama won't die. Nor will the shootout (at least yet).

Most people expected that we had seen the last of the spin-o-rama in the skills competition when the league addressed the matter at the Board of Governors meeting back in June. Only problem is the players didn't agree to a rule change so forget about the abolition of the spin, it's still in.

From NHL.com:

The NHL's general managers were hoping to make the spin-o-rama in shootouts illegal for this season, but there was no support at the NHLPA level.

Mike Murphy, the NHL's Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations, told NHL.com that he isn't sure if the general managers will review the topic again in the near future.

"I would say it's put to bed for a few years," Murphy said.

The concern among the general managers was that the spin-o-rama in shootouts too closely toes the line between legal and illegal.

Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't, but all I know is that spin-o-ramas are fun. Let's not pretend like they are simple to pull off, not everybody can do them. It's a skill move in a skills competition; if it's not blatantly over that legal/illegal line then by all means keep it in. Fans hate the shootout in general as it is, let's not take away it's most exciting feature.

This will please some players out there like Evgeni Malkin but you better believe goalies aren't going to be happy about it.
