Rich Peverley, one of the Stars' new centermen acquired this offseason, is going to miss the rest of training camp and perhaps the beginning of the season. Thankfully, that's all he'll miss.

The Stars announced on Friday that Peverley is going to be out for three weeks after having a procedur to fix an irregular heartbeat. The issue was discovered in the pre-camp physical he took on Wednesday and has since been taken care of.

"We sent him to a specialist and it ended up he had an A-fib condition [atrial fibrillation], which is where the heart gets out of rhythm," Stars GM Jim Nill said. "He had a procedure done. He's going to be out for three weeks and should be available close to the start of the season, might miss one or two games."

Sure beats the alternative. And the next time you hear about players taking physicals, remember this is part of the reason, to catch something wrong that otherwise might have gone unnoticed.

"Our medical staff did a great job, they recognized this," NIll said. "That's why they do the medical procedures, they picked it up on the EKG and he'll be fine. "

Peverley came over to Dallas in a trade along with Tyler Seguin in exchange for Loui Eriksson in one of the big blockbusters of the offseason. Last season in 47 games he had six goals and 12 assists while in 2011-12 he had 11 goals and 31 assists in just 57 games. Bringing aboard the 31-year-old was part of Dallas' plan to get a lot stronger down the middle.
