Torres was injured on friday night in a game against the Ducks when he and Emerson Etem collided. ON the play Torres suffered an injury to his ACL and is going to be out six weeks. He could be out longer though if the Sharks determine he needs surgery. The timetable then? Try 3-4 months.
Any decision on surgery will be made later this week by the Sharks.
That's a rough start to the campaign for Torres and the Sharks. He came to San Jose last season in a trade with Phoenix and fit in pretty well. Intent on reshaping his image, Torres was able to find some of his old scoring form -- some, not all of it, mind you -- as he had six points in 11 games with the Sharks while only picking up four penalty minutes.
He was impressive enough with San Jose that GM Doug Wilson signed Torres to a three-year, $6 million extension this summer. Think what you will about the guy, but the Sharks were counting on him to give them good minutes in a bottom-six role this season. Now if he ends up having surgery, you're talking about him potentially missing half the season.
