Rangers' Rick Nash leaves game after taking blow to the head

By Evan Hilbert | CBSSports.com

New York Rangers left winger Rick Nash left Tuesday's game with the San Jose Sharks after taking an elbow to the head.

The specific injury has not yet been disclosed by the team.

The play occurred in the first period of the Sharks rout of New York, when San Jose's Brad Stuart caught Nash with an elbow. Stuart served two minutes for an elbowing minor.

Stuart will also have a hearing in front of the league's Department of Player Safety Wednesday. He may be further disciplined for an "illegal check to the head."

A similar event occurred with Nash in February, when a hit from Milan Lucic forced the attacker to miss four games. It wasn't until months later that it was confirmed that Nash indeed suffered a concussion.

As for this specific injury that occurred Tuesday, it would be inappropriate to speculate to the extent of Nash's injury before the team makes any official announcement.

However, Nash indicated that he was concerned following the game.

"I have a headache," Nash said. "It got worse. It was a head shot. I'm concerned the way it feels."

Nash has three assists in two games this season.
