Montreal Canadiens captain Brian Gionta left the team's road trip to return home for family reasons. The Habs will definitely be without Gionta for Saturday night's game in Vancouver against the Canucks, but when he'll return is unclear.
"We don't know when he's going to come back," Canadiens coach Michel Therrien said after practice at Rogers Arena on Friday. "He's an important part of our team. He's a good leader, but right now I don't know when he's going to come back."
Gionta previously took a leave from the Habs earlier in the week to attend to what was termed as a family emergency. He rejoined the team Tuesday and played in the Habs' road contests in Calgary and Edmonton this week.
After Saturday night's tilt against the Canucks, Montreal travels to take on the Jets in Winnipeg Tuesday.
Gionta has a goal and an assist through four games.
