Ice is an unforgiving surface as we know, especially after opening night's ugly scene in Montreal. Todd Bertuzzi was reminded of this on Monday afternoon in Boston.
With the Red Wings trying to extend a 3-1 lead in the third period, Bertuzzi went charging to the net as he is wont to do. He just happened to clip Tuukka Rask on the way there and lost his balance, going face first toward the ice. He also happened to catch the goalpost on the way down.
One word: Ouuuuuch. That couldn't feel very nice at all.
The result wasn't much prettier as Bertuzzi was left with the makings of quite the shiner. But because he is a hockey player, Bertuzzi did return to the game after the faceplant and helped the Wings hang on for a 3-2 victory.
Can't imagine there will be too much sympathy for Bertuzzi on this, though. The guy hasn't exactly enamored himself to NHL fans over the years (especially those in Colorado).
