Panthers promise Bruins fans that Sox game will appear on arena TVs

By Mike Singer | CBSSports.com

The Florida Panthers, at 2-5-0, haven't started the 2013-14 season as they had hoped. They're sixth in the Atlantic Division, ahead of only Buffalo, and are staring at a minus-12 goal differential just seven games into the season.

Understandably, the Panthers are pulling out all the stops in order to increase attendance, even if that includes advertising to their opponent's fans. The Panthers host the Bruins on Thursday night, but much of Boston's loyal fan base will be fixated on Game 5 of the ALCS, with the Red Sox playing in Detroit at 8 p.m. ET. To alleviate any concerns for the out-of-town fans, the Panthers have guaranteed that they'll televise the playoff game.

That's low, especially since Thursday's meeting between the Bruins and the Panthers isn't insignificant. Long-time Bruins goalie Tim Thomas -- who left the team with a year remaining on his contract after the 2011-12 season -- will start in goal for the Panthers after signing a one-year deal last month.

"Never thought that we would play against each other," current Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask told the Boston Globe. "But I mean, I'm glad he made his comeback. That's what people want."

That, and a little October baseball.
