With the Boston Bruins leading the Buffalo Sabres 4-2 in the third period on Wednesday night, things got nasty.

John Scott, the massive enforcer for the Sabres, was on the ice and lined up Bruins forward Loui Eriksson from across the ice. By the time he met Eriksson in the neutral zone, the result was a vicious shot to the head on Eriksson that earned Scott a five-minute major and caused a massive hailstorm.

It will also undoubtedly result in a suspension in the coming days for Scott. Likely a long suspension.

After the game the Sabres weren't in a very chatty mood to discuss it.

"I'm not going to comment on it," coach Ron Rolston said. Rolston is drawing just as much fire as Scott with the timing and situation of this hit happening. This isn't the first time that Rolston's Sabres have had a situation erupt involving Scott either. You'll recall the preseason brawl in Toronto that led to a fine for Rolston in that situation.

While he was being quiet, Bruins coach Claude Julien wasn't as timid to share his thoughts.

"The guy that did it, did his job tonight I guess," Julien said, referring to Scott. "He's only out there for two reasons: to fight, and hurt."

Surely lost in this whole mess is the health of Eriksson. He left the game and didn't return and after the game Julien had no update to give on his condition.

Now, buckle up for another round of talks about the role of enforcers and fighting in the NHL. Thanks, John Scott.
