San Jose Sharks defenseman Dan Boyle was back on the ice Thursday for the first time since leaving an Oct. 15 game with the St. Louis Blues after taking a hit from Maxim Lapierre.

Though he's on the road to recovery -- Boyle skated for about an hour Thursday in Boston and hopes to be back soon -- he apparently still holds some ill-will toward Lapierre.

Boyle told CSNBayArea.com that Lapierre has reached out to him, though not yet successfully.

"He left a message," Boyle said Thursday. "I think it's been documented that I didn't take the call. I'll leave it at that for now."

Boyle, who said that doctors are still not sure whether he was concussed or not, doesn't remember the play, but has seen replays.

"I wanted to see it right away," he told the website. "I certainly wanted to find out how it happened.

"I've been in this league for a long time, and a big reason is because I don't put myself in those types of situations, where I'm susceptible to those kinds of hits. That's why I wanted to see it. I still have a hard time believing that it actually happened."

Lapierre was suspended five games for the hit.
