Friday night's game between University of Minnesota and Boston College was one of the best regular-season college hockey games you'll see. It had some crazy momentum swings, some pretty goals and it ended in the most ridiculous fashion.

With the game tied 3-3 in overtime, the Gophers got a break when Taylor Cammarata snuck behind the defense for a breakaway. The New York Islanders prospect tried to slip the puck past BC goaltender Thatcher Demko, but the netminder got his stick on it. The puck popped straight up in the air and was about to fall into the net.

That's when Ian McCoshen, who was the 31st overall selection by the Florida Panthers in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, did the only thing he could. He had already lost his stick trying to get a piece of Cammarata, so his hands were free, which proved to be lucky. McCoshen caught the puck with his hands and threw it off the goal line.

He actually threw it all the way to a teammate and play continued. The play was later reviewed and the no-goal call stood. The referees missed the hand pass, which even in the defensive zone are not permitted in college hockey. Also, it was never quite conclusive that McCoshen closed his hand on the puck in the crease.

That doesn't take anything away from the craftiness of McCoshen who saved the game. Boston College went on to win in a shootout, 4-3. It was a symbolic victory as this was a non-conference game. Shootout results only apply in conference standings as not all conferences have adopted the shootout. So for all intents and purposes, it's actually a tie thanks to McCoshen.

This is the second time Friday night this game has been featured here on this blog, as Minnesota's first goal featured a funny goal celebration blooper. What a crazy night for college hockey in Minneapolis.
