Coyotes forward Martin Hanzal has been suspended two games by the NHL's Department of Player Safety for charging.

Hanzal was given a penalty on the play as well as a hearing with the league as he made considerable contact with the head of Oilers defenseman Jeff Petry on the charge. This time the suspension video honors go to new Department of Player Safety member Brian Leetch.

It was a pretty textbook case of charging here for the NHL to review. As Leetch points out, Hanzal came from a long way with a lot of speed and elevated into his hit. He made substantial contact with Petry's head, who was fortunate enough to avoid injury on the hit.

This is actually Hanzal's second suspension with the NHL. He was suspended one game in 2012 for boarding.

Because of his repeat offender status, it opens up Hanzal to a bigger fine. As a result of the suspension he forfeits $75,609.76 in salary as well.
