Making his final appearance in Philadelphia on Tuesday night, Ducks forward Teemu Selanne took a stick to the face and left the ice bloodied.

The play happened in the corner during a 2-2 game in the second period. Selanne along with teammate Emerson Etem were pursuing the puck into the corner boards along with Flyers defenseman Luke Schenn. When Etem and Schenn collided it elevated Schenn's stick and it swung right into the face of Selanne, who immediately went down.

Eventually Selanne was helped off the ice with a towel soaking up the blood from his mouth, some of which was left on the ice. Schenn was not called for a penalty on the play, by the way. Not that it was intentional (nobody would dare intentionally hurt Selanne) but a player is responsible for his stick at all times on the ice.

The Ducks announced that Selanne would not return in the game.

Philadelphia as you all know is notorious for its rough treatment but notice even the fans in the city of Brotherly Love couldn't help but give Selanne a massive cheer as he skated off the ice with help. That shows you how revered Selanne is across the NHL.

I think I speak for hockey fans everywhere when I say get well soon, Teemu.

In this his final season, Selanne has three goals and four assists in 11 games for the Ducks.
