The Ducks announced on Wednesday that as a result of the stick to the mouth from the Flyers' Luke Schenn, Selanne is headed back to California to have oral surgery and will miss two weeks. The details sound very, very painful.
Selanne suffered damage to his upper mouth by an errant stick last night in Philly, including several missing teeth and 40 stitches.— Anaheim Ducks (@AnaheimDucks) October 30, 2013
With that, Schenn just became Enemy No. 1 across the NHL from the legions of Selanne fans everywhere.
Frankly, it's kind of amazing that Selanne had that many teeth left to lose in the first place. Most NHLers don't make it into their 40s with a ton of teeth intact.
The Ducks are certainly going to miss Selanne who had three goals and four assists in 11 games this season, but they're not the only ones missing out.
With this season being his last and Teemu being beloved by fans everywhere, people in NHL cities everywhere were looking forward to seeing him play once more. But now he's going to miss games at Boston, Buffalo and Madison Square Garden and then possibly the start of a road trip that takes Anaheim through Florida, Tampa Bay, Carolina and Pittsburgh as well.
