Starting Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov was arrested by Denver Police on Wednesday. The Denver Police Department added he was arrested on domestic violence-related charges.

The Denver Post reports that Varlamov turned himself in to police voluntarily earlier on Wednesday.

The Post's Ryan Parker was at the Police Department's press conference as they filled in some of the details. It doesn't sound good.

Varlamov will spend the night at the Denver County Jail as bail is not an option given his assault charge. You can see Parker's entire timeline for more details.

Meanwhile, the Avalanche released a statement on the matter Wednesday night as well.

"The Colorado Avalanche organization is aware of the allegations concerning Semyon Varlamov. At this time, and until the conclusion of this investigation, the Avalanche organization will have no further comment on this situation."

This constitutes the first bit of bad news the Avalanche have had all season, really. Varlamov has been lights out as the Avs goaltender, posting a 7-1-0 record as the team has begun the Patrick Roy era with a 10-1-0 mark. Varlamov has a .945 save percentage and a paltry 1.76 goals against average.

The Avalanche are scheduled to play at Dallas on Friday and come back to Denver for a game on Saturday against Montreal. It had been expected that Varlamov and backup Jean-Sebastien Giguere would split the starts but at this point that's obviously in question.
