It has just been that kind of start to the season for the Ottawa Senators. You know, that kind where they are scoring goals against themselves.

Early in the third period on Sunday of what was a 2-2 game against the visiting Stars. Dallas' Antoine Roussel through the puck into the crease where nobody was waiting except for Sens defenseman Mark Borowiecki who had an easy clearing chance ahead of him. Next came the part where he says "oops."

Instead of getting the puck out of danger he put the puck into an even more dangerous spot, as in one-timing it right in between Craig Anderson's pads and into his own net. Officially the goal goes to Roussel -- his first of the season -- but, well, we all know who scored it; the rookie defenseman from the Sens.

Own goals happen with relative frequency in the NHL but that doesn't make them sting any less. Thankfully for Borowiecki, Bobby Ryan helped bail him out with a game-tying goal in the final 10 seconds to send the game to overtime, though the Senators did lose in the shootout.

For a team that entered the season with aspirations of winning the Eastern Conference this season, the 4-3 loss to the Stars drops them to 4-6-4 on the season and just 1-3-2 on home ice. Indeed, it is proving to be that kind of season in Ottawa.
