Corey Perry isn't very well liked in the NHL. The former Hart Trophy winner has immense talent, which of course can be maddening, but he's also well known for his agitating. On Monday night at Madison Square Garden, Perry may have been given a bit of his own medicine by Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonagh.
In the span of about 10 seconds, Corey Perry was hit into the Rangers' bench twice by McDonagh. The New York players on the bench weren't exactly the most helpful bunch either, holding Perry back to make sure it took him an extra second or two to make his way back to the play.
The second time around, McDonagh made sure Perry stayed well acquainted with his Rangers teammates, holding the Ducks star over the boards for a few seconds. That led to a bit of a scrum near the Rangers bench as tempers naturally flared a bit.
Perhaps it was likely U.S. Olympian McDonagh giving likely Canadian Olympian Perry some good ol' fashioned American justice. Or maybe Perry just wanted to see what the home bench looked like in the newly renovated MSG.
No matter the reason, that's a tough shift for the Ducks forward and a rather solid one for the Rangers defenseman in a game New York was trying to claw back into. Perry got the last laugh, though. Anaheim won, 2-1.
