If you thought the Star Wars uniforms that ECHL Toledo wore last week were something, they have nothing on the what ECHL friends the Bakersfield Condors will wear this Sunday.
The Condors, who are not afraid one bit to go with attention-grabbing stunts in what's a minor-league hockey tradition, are going with a really unusual approach. They're going to wear sweaters commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address (which isn't actually until Nov. 19).
Just look at this thing. From Sports Logos:
On the front there's an image of President Abraham Lincoln beside a mini Condors logo, the sleeves feature cannons and around the neck there are 1860s authentic Bud Light and Kuzz logos. It gets better on the back where the entire Gettysburg Address is written with a scene from the battle of Gettysburg below.
This would probably be a good time to point out that Gettysburgh, Pennsylvania and Bakersfield, California are separated by more than 2,600 miles. It doesn't make much sense at all until you remember that it's about getting attention and in that department, it's going to work pretty well. Plus they will auction the jerseys off after the game for charity so that's always good.
Now we await the awful jokes if/when the Condors score four.
Oh and by the way, the Condors are going to have a Star Wars Night of their own.
