The Los Angeles Kings are going to be without Jonathan Quick for the final three games of their Eastern Conference road trip as their starting goaltender was sent back to LA on Wednesday due to an injury.

The Kings were in Buffalo on Tuesday night, the game requiring overtime to settle matters. It was in the overtime that Quick made a pad save and then coasted back to hug the goal post that he began laboring and at the next dead puck he remained down with the trainer until backup Ben Scrivens was put in the game. The Kings lost in a shootout.

More pressing than the one point up for grabs, though, was the health of Quick. After the game coach Darryl Sutter said he hasn't checked on Quick yet so he didn't know but on Wednesday he at least had a minor update.

That still doesn't narrow it down much beyond what was visible last night but either way it's not great news for the Kings. Despite the fact that Quick hasn't been at his best this season, he's still a very important piece of the puzzle in LA evidenced by the fact that he has started 16 of the Kings' 18 games.

With him returning to LA it's a safe assumption he won't play in any of the games against the New York-area trio this week. That means the Kings are going to have to rely on Scrivens, who they acquired this summer when they traded backup Jonathan Bernier to Toronto. He has been good in his limited action so far this season, posting a .924 save percentage and 1.89 GAA in five appearances.

Earlier on Wednesday the Kings recalled Martin Jones from AHL Monchester to serve as the backup to Scrivens while Quick is out.
