In Tuesday's game at Colorado, forward Bryan Bickell went sliding down the ice and crashed into the goal post, somewhat like Lightning star Steven Stamkos did in Boston. While Bickell didn't have to leave the ice on a stretcher with a broken tibia, it doesn't look like he got away injury free either.
Goal posts aren't being too kind this season.
Bryan Bickell will miss the next two to three weeks with what looks to be a left ankle injury, but Marian Hossa returns Thursday night when the Chicago Blackhawks play the Winnipeg Jets.
Bickell was injured when he slid into the Colorado net in the first period on Tuesday night. Replays showed his left ankle hitting the goal post hard. Jeremy Morin was recalled from Rockford in Bickell's absence.
Well, that doesn't sound good (except the part about Hossa returning; that's good news in Chicago).
Bickell had a breakout last season in the playoffs when he more minutes and matched his regular-season goal total with nine goals and eight assists in just 23 games. It led to the Blackhawks re-signing him to a four-year, $16 million contract this summer just before free agency.
So far this season he has settled back into a more typical pace for him with five goals and an assist in 22 games while averaging 12:54 of ice time per game. While his point total is low, the goal scoring had him on pace to challenge his career high of 17 back in 2010-11.
