With the Canes working hard on the forecheck, the Senators got the puck loose and then Erik Karlsson did what he does best, start the puck up ice like a forward. He led a 3-on-2 where the Senators got a shot and rebound off the far pad right to Colin Greening with an open net.
That's when Ward got desperate and when goalies get desperate sometimes great saves happen. In this case, a great save happened.
It has to be one of the better stick saves we'll see this season. Not only did he protect a wide-open cage with his stick but he swatted the puck out of mid-air. That takes some luck, sure, but a heck of a lot of skill, too.
