On Friday night, Stars defenseman Stephane Robidas had to leave the ice on a stretcher after a brutal collision into the end boards where his leg took the brunt. He was taken to the hospital as a result.

On Saturday the Stars got the news on the veteran defenseman's prognosis and it's not good at all. Robidas fractured his leg in the collision and was placed on injured reserve. The timeframe for a return is 4-6 months.

Robidas is longer in the tooth these days but he's still a big part of the defense in Dallas, averaging nearly 20 minutes per game in 24 appearances this season. He has four goals and an assist to go with a plus-seven rating and a positive Corsi number, indicitating he's been a plus-possession player.

This doesn't do the Stars any good in their hopes of trying to remain in the ultra competitive Western Conference playoff race. The Stars are last in the Central Division at 12-9-3, seven points behind fourth-place Minnesota.
